Shawm

I bought a shawm today!!!
Happy like a child I don't need any more Christmas this year:-) I mustn't play it yet, not to learn to breathe wrong. But I hope soon I'll be able to.

It's simply nice, isn't it?

Orange Sock Poi

Yesterday I made real sock poi, not like the prototypes I had made before:-)
I bought original ones to know what they look like exactly.
First I made a pattern on the whole fabric.

Then I tried to draw a cut. The pattern is 10 cm wide and 90 long. I have a suspition that the original cut consists only from almost-a-triangle. I created this one. The fabric I used is a tent canvas not to stretch and to be strong enough.

But as it's so tough I was desperate about turning it inside out. In its end poi was only a cm wide and I found myself hopeless. But something saved me. Pliers:-)

And this is how it ended up. I am contented, although this poi that I've made for my friend is better coloured than the mine :-) And I have a new meter, pleased about it, my longest ruler was nearly 30 cm :-/

I decided to sew sock poi for some money, I like it and hope the jugglers who can't sew themselves will like it too:-) Today I made a small bag for the poi from the rest of the fabric.

Plastic Flowers

I wanted to show my boyfriend how to have fun with pet bottles. You cut the bottle and make leaves. It can be of any shape. The next step is to light a candle. You leave the leaf above it until it begins to wind. It takes a bit of sense, cause in case you let it there for too long, it folds, which we don't wont.

When you have winded the plastic you can start putting it together. Keep one end of the leaf above the candle until it melts. Then push it to its aimed place and press e.g. with scissors. It doesn't hold well, but it doesn't matter that much.
It looks like this - I made the left one and he did the right flower. He's very skillful, isn't he? :-)
He's got it nicer :,-(

Cross Stitching

It's been a long time since I started a pansy wreath. It's been abandoned in the middle, now after the leaving exam I have enough time so I'm nearly at the end.
I'm right handed so I make stitches from the right to the left.

My Pocket

Here it is. Green dragons found their goal. First I made a shape of the lid.

I couldn't remember well the shape of a pocket that I've seen once and I made several models to discover the right pattern.

Finally I made out that I must take the pattern of the back. I drew the small lines and then made the front pattern - starting in the middle I drew a line to the nearest one on the left. I moved the paper a bit left and continued. The rests will be folded inside to drape the bottom.

The pocket's two plies thick on every place. I took these two patterns, cut them half a cm from the line and began to sew.

I quite like it despite the fact that I didn't have exactly this on mind. I used my double-sided embroidery stitch again.

The back is filled by a piece of leather - unfortunately I cut it too small :-(
In front it's tied as a sack. There should be a button on the lid but I haven't decided yer whether to put it there or not. Maybe once.. :-)

Pettycoat starting

I boughht a canvas - flax + cotton. The technique is taken from the cottesimple web. It seems easy but my main problem is not enough experience and skillfullness and pinning dress on myself.

I cut the fabric in two rectangulars. Holding it as in the picture I pinned the hips. This was the easiest of all.

The back was not so funny at all. I had to make a line along the and one in the front middle.
The result is here.

But it didn't please me.

I repinned and repinned.. I have to save another day for this work.
When I tried to turn the basted seams it was winding in the front.
I don't like making patterns, I admit that I don't know nothing about them :-(

Fake Cornrows

As the title says I tried to make a hairdo that would look like the classic cornrows. It's very comfortable, hair is free but it doesn't reach a face.

But cornrows are much more difficult especially when you have to comb yourself alone. This one wants to divide hair to the upper and lower halves. I recommend to tie all the hair around the one you're just working with, it will mix. You can also play with rubber band colours.

Leaving Hairdo

This is a hairdo I made for my leaving exam. It consists of a bun and some twisted accents, that look like small ropes.

I consider this one the nicest hairdo I can produce. The second more detailed photo has been shot the next day, after having slept on it :-)

Dragons

I decided to make me a pocket too, with a similar toppic as my friend's is. I feel lucky to have found this picture on the web - not sure, but I reckon it comes from a bell. I only had to twist the upper loop cause it didn't suit the final shape.

I added some lines to resemble the blue dragons - and there's the result. As people nick me Frog, because of a green colour, of course my dragons are green:-) The technique is all the same: bayeaux for the bodies, stem stitch for the outlines and refilsaum for the rest.

Tucked Braid

I decided to try a tucked braid. It's relieving to shorten your hair for a moment.
My boyfriend compared it to a little mess. But boys are like this.. You can't get angry about them as they are so cute:-)
